Project: Commercial/ Industrial Fit-Out for UTC Aerospace

Superstructures were responsible for the design of steelwork and connections for various structural items in the fit-out of a new   commercial/industrial unit for multinational company UTC Aerospace Systems.

We worked closely in partnership with Metalwork Services  Ltd who coordinated the design and build commission for our client Overbury to construct lift shafts, staircases, balustrade and sliding partition support.

The project is progressing at pace with the principal steelwork  being successfully erected and installed to a high degree of accuracy into the main structure.

Project Outline:

Some say never to mix business with pleasure, however this project proves that theory wrong. The scheme, undertaken for friends, transformed separate, dark disfunctional kitchen, breakfast and dining rooms in to a large open plan space. Dividing walls - one of which contained a very large chimney breast were removed, existing window openings increased in size and sliding glass doors incorporated in to the rear elevation providing access to sun terrace. Along with the permanent structural elements we also designed the temporary works for the contractor, who went on to execute and finish the project with excellent results. The contemporary style and decor are down to the clients'  great eye for detail.

Debenham High School

Project: Classroom and Dining Room Extensions

Project Outline:

This project involved the construction of two medium sized extensions - one providing two new classrooms, the other providing additional dining space. Both extensions were constructed from timber frame, one with a conventional concrete ground bearing slab and the other with a suspended timber floor to match existing levels. The dining extension proved a little tricky with the requirement to bridge over existing services within the building footprint and to provide support to a replacement glazing system in the existing gable.

Project: Alterations to Domestic Property

Project Outline:

This project involved the introduction of some wow factor in to the kitchen and dining area of a substantial domestic property. The internal space was opened up and a large set of folding doors was introduced in to the rear elevation to create an open plan kitchen, dining, living area with great access to the garden. What initially appeared to be a straight forward project turned in to something that required some fast thinking, due to the location of the existing cellar and extremely limited existing foundations to the rear gable wall. Mini piles and reinforced concrete needle beams were used to provide new foundations for the steel framing around the glazing, thus maintaining the clients proposals whilst ensuring the future stability of the existing elevation.
